Indirect ways for Syphilis to be spread?

So im doing a project on syphilis and there are some things that im not too sure on. On my paper given to me by my teacher it says that my disease is ADVANCED syphilis. but when i type it in on Google all i get is plain 'ol syphilis. Is advanced syphilis and syphilis just the same thing? and i read on a website that "Syphilis cannot be spread through contact with toilet seats, doorknobs, swimming pools, hot tubs, bathtubs, shared clothing, or eating utensils". Does that only mean after they've been washed?
